text of obituary:
MRS. H. P. UNRUH
Emelia Schmidt Unruh, daughter of Tobias and Luvantina P. Schmidt, was born on Oct. 22, 1879 in McPherson County, Kansas. She was taken to be with her Lord on June 4, 1966 at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Ratzlaff, Lehigh, Kan. She reached the age of 86 years, seven months and 14 days. She was a member of a large family and was the last one in the family to leave this world.
On May 27, 1910 she was baptized by Rev. H. R. Voth and joined the Friedenstal Mennonite Church where she remained a member until her death. She was the oldest member of the Friedenstal church at the time of her departure.
On April 28, 1898 she was united in marriage to Henry P. Unruh. To this union were born 11 children, of which one son and two daughters preceded her in death. Her husband preceded her in death on July 14, 1953.
She was hospitalized in March because of pneumonia, from which she never fully recovered. She was again hospitalized in May, and again released until her wish was granted by her Heavenly Father to take her Home.
After father's death she continued doing hand sewing for her children and grandchildren. She spent much time in reading, especially the Bible. She also prayed much for her children. The memory of a loving and praying mother will remain with us.
She leaves to mourn her departure eight children: Edward of Salem, Ore.; Margaret, Mrs. William Van Valkenburg, Emporia, Kan.; Alice, Mrs. Walter Ratzlaff, Lehigh, Kan.; Wesley, Durham, Kan.; Martha, Mrs. Ed Beemer, Emporia, Kan.; Orpha, Mrs. Emil Dirks, Tampa, Kan.; Walter, Durham, Kan.; Ralph, Missoula, Mont. Also surviving are four daughters-in-law, three sons-in-law, 34 grandchildren, 45 great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. — The Family.
