Cornelius F. Unruh, Sohn von Cornelius u. Aanna [sic Anna] Funk Unruh wurde nahe Goessel, Kansas den 10. Juli, 1886 geboren. Hier verlebte er seine Kindheit und Jugendjahre. Er wurde getauft auf d. Bekenntnis seines Glaubens an seinen Erlöser am 30. Mai, 1909, u schloß sich damit der Alexanderwohl Gemeinde an, dessen treues Glied er blieb bis zu seinem Tode. Am 14. April, 1912, trat er in den heiligen Ehestand mit Sarah Schröder. Diese Ehe wurde gesegnet mit drei Töchtern. Der Verstorbene wohnte mit seiner Familie nahe Goessel, Kansas die ganze Zeit seines Lebens. Im Jahre 1919 kaufte er die Farm nord von Goessel, Kansas, welches das liebe Heim der Familie ist. Nun aber hat er ein noch viel schöneres Heim, dort droben in Jenseits. Der Verstorbene liebte seine Kirche, und war immer regelmäßig im Gottesdienst. Er diente auf verschiedene Weise in der Gemeinde, — als Glied des Baukomitees, usw. Er hatte sonst immer gute Gesundheit bis auf das letzte Jahr seines Lebens. Er ahnte daß seine Tage gezhält waren und machte das auch seiner Familie kund. Als seine Gesundheit versagte, suchte er ärzliche Hilfe und wurde dann nach dem Axtell Hospital, Newton. Kansas gebracht. Aber trotz aller medizinischer Behandlung und ärztlicher Hilfe, ist sein Geist am 28. Dezember, 1946, Heim gegangen. Er erreichte das Alter von 60 Jahren. Gerade 23 Jahre vorher ist sein Vater auch am selben Datum gestorben. Obwohl unser Vater und Gatte uns sehr fehlen wird, dennoch trauern wir nicht als solche, die keine Hoffnung haben, sondern wir wissen daß er nun vom Glauben zum Schauen gelangt ist. “Selig sind die Toten die in dem Herrn sterben.” Diese Gewißheit hat er auch uns allen hinterlassen. Die Leichenrede wurde von Prediger P. A. Wedel und Prediger C. C. Wedel gehalten. Als Text brauchten sie Johannes 17:3 und Psalm 90:1.

— C. F. Unruh of Goessel passed away last Saturday morning, Dec. 28, at the Axtell Christian hospital in Newton after an illness of several weeks duration. He was 59 years of age. Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Mildred of the home, and Elma and Martha, who reside in the Parsons apartments, Newton, and are employed at the Herald Book and Printing Company; two brothers, Dan and Henry Unruh of Newton; and four sisters, Mrs. H. H. Harms an Mrs. W. L. Patrick of Newton and Mrs. I. B. Fast and Mrs. P. J. Schmidt of rural Newton. Funeral services were announced for the afternoon of New Year’s day, beginning at 1:00 o’clock at the home and at 2:00 o’clock at the Alexanderwohl church.

CORNELIUS F. UNRUH

Cornelius F. Unruh was born July 10, 1886, the son of Cornelius and Anna (Funk) Unruh near Goessel, Kansas.

Here he attended the elementary school and grew up to manhood. He would often repeat to his family some of his boyhood pleasures and the happy times spent with his cousins and friends.

He was baptized upon confession of faith in his Saviour Jesus Christ on May 30, 1909, and became a member of the Alexanderwohl Mennonite church, whose faithful member he remained to the time of his death.

On April 14, 1912, he was united in marriage with Sarah Schroeder. Three daughters were born to this union. They have always lived in the vicinity of Goessel. In 1919 the parents bought the farm north of Goessel, which has ever been a cherished home to the family.

Our father was an active man and took interest in a number of different things, especially in things pertaining to agriculture and the different cooperative organizations of the community. He was neat and orderly in all his work and kept systematic and accurate account of his business, which will greatly aid us now that he is gone.

His church was dear to him and he faithfully attended both the Sunday School and the worship services as long as he was able. he has served in the church in various ways, being a member of the building committee at the time when the Alexanderwohl church was rebuilt.

The family will always remember him through the example of the life he lived. He was always willing to help in the various causes and we considered him a man of good judgment and were always confident that he would have the right solution to any problem that might confront us as a family.

He always enjoyed good health and was able to do his own work. This past summer, however, we noticed that his strength was failing and he was losing weight. He was easily touched emotionally and would sometimes say that he would not have much longer to live. For our sake though he tried to be cheerful and kept going as long a she could.

We could see that his condition was serious so we urged him to consult a doctor. He first sought medical aid locally but since his health did not improve he entered the Axtell Christian Hospital in Newton on December 9. The doctors told us of the seriousness of his condition, but we kept hoping against hope that God could somehow restore him if it was His will. However, in spite of all that loving hands could do, he failed rapidly and departed from this life at the age of 60 years, 5 months and 18 days on Dec. 28 at 1:45 in the morning. On the same day, 23 years ago his own father also passed away.

We find it hard to give him up for we feel that we still need him very much, but he assured us that he was ready to go. We can thus say with the Apostle Paul, "O death where is thy sting, O grave where is they victory . . . . but thanks be to God which giveth us the victory through Our Lord Jesus Christ."

He leaves to mourn his departure his sorrowing wife and three daughters Elma, Martha and Mildred, all of the home; also two brothers, Dan and Henry of Newton; five sisters, Mrs. Henry H. Harms and Mrs. W. L. Patrick of Newton; Mrs. I. B. Fast and Mrs. P. J. Schmidt of rural newton and Mary of Topeka; also many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held from the Alexanderwohl church on New Year's day afternoon, at 2 o'clock, in charge of the pastor, Rev. P. A. Wedel, who was assisted by Rev. C. C. Wedel. A quartet composed of Milton and John Reimer, Otto Quiring and Alfred Schmidt sang appropriate selections. Pal=-bearers were the following nephews of the departed: Ernest Unruh, Harvey Schmidt, Glen Patrick, Allen Schroeder, Melvern Schroeder and Randolph Schroeder.
