CECIL JONAS UNRUH

Montezuma, Kansas. — On Sunday, Sept. 19, in addition to the regular services here a short and solemn service was held in remembrance of Cecil Jonas Unruh, who has been reported killed.

The service was composed of Scripture reading, upon which some serious thoughts were given as to the condition we are in. Also an earnest exhortation to sobriety and fervent prayer to be sent to the Throne of Grace in behalf of the young men facing the same dangers as did the departed brother. All then paused in deep sympathy to the bereaved ones and in remembrance of the deceased. The close was made with a special song and prayer.

Cecil Jonas Unruh, son of Pete and Dina Unruh, was born in McPherson county, Kansas, near McPherson on Dec. 23, 1921

Cecil was drafted into the armed forces on July 9, 1942. He was in training nearly a year but on July 12 surprised the home folks with a visit which lasted only 7 days.

On July 19 he gave the parting hand and bid his mother and many others the last farewell.

According to the telegram received from the War Department Cecil died Aug. 21, 1943, reaching the age of 21 years, 7 months and 21 days.

Cecil was a quiet, peaceable boy, spending much of his time at home with his mother. He was a great lover of home, which he also expressed very keenly while he was home on furlough in June.

He leaves to mourn his deeply sorrowing mother, 6 brothers and 6 sisters. His father preceded him in death. One brother Dave is in the services on New Guinea.
