BENJAMIN A. UNRUH

Benjamin A. Unruh, son of Andrew and Susie Unruh was born Jan. 28, 1872, in Austrin, Russia.

At the age of three years he came to the United States with his parents, who located in McPherson county, Kansas. He joined the Mennonite church in 1891. He took out naturalization papers and volunteered for Grover Cleveland in 1892.

On Oct. 13, 1894, he was united in marriage to Miss Lena Schultz, and to this union twelve children were born, three of whom preceded him in death.

They lived in Kansas, Oklahoma and Missouri, and in 1912 he moved with his family to Nebraska where he was a resident of Lincoln county and this community until departing from this life at 8:50 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 4, 1950, at the age of 78 years and seven days. He had been ill about three days and was taken to the Memorial hospital with severe pain until his death.

Benjamin Unruh was united in the brotherhood of the Methodist church in Sutherland in 1923, and had been a faithful church worker ever since. The last words from his lips were a prayer.

His wife Lena, preceded him in death in 1921. Surviving him are Abe Unruh, Mrs. John Arensdorf, and Lincoln Unruh of North Platte, Nebr., Mrs. Victor Danielson of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Lena Seyler of Englewood, Calif., Mrs. Leo Fleecs and Eugene Unurh [sic Unruh] of Sutherland, Nebr., Leonard Unruh of Paxton, Nebr., and Mrs. Lonnie Jones of Eugene, Ore. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, a host of relatives and many friends.
