ANDREW B. UNRUH

Andrew B. Unruh was born April 23, 1872, in Polish Russia and departed this life to be with the Lord, Sept. 15, 1960. He reached the age of 88 years, four months and 22 days.

At the age of two years he with his parents immigrated to America. They settled in Ohio but soon came to Kansas, settling on a farm near Pawnee Rock. After several years they moved to Marion County where he grew to manhood.

In his early youth he lost his mother through death. At the age of 22 he felt his lost condition and the need of salvation. He received forgiveness through the atoning blood of Jesus Christ and great peace and overflowing joy in his heart. He was baptized by minister H. H. Schmidt in 1894 and added to the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. He remained faithful and true to God and loyal to the church until the end. He trusted in God and had great faith in prayer to direct all affairs of this life.

On April 7, 1895, he joined hands in holy matrimony with Susie Jantz. They shared joys and sorrows for 61 years. To this union nine children were born; Lydia (Mrs. John Jantz), Winton, Calif.; Albert, Montezuma, Kan.; John, Ithaca, Mich.; Lena (Mrs. Willie Unruh), deceased; Alice (Mrs. John Yost), Copeland, Kans.; Frank, Los Gatos, Calif.; Mable [sic Mabel] (Mrs. Ivan Schmidt) Frescoing, Kan.; and Andy Jr., Gilroy, Calif.

They chose farming for their life's occupation. They toiled hard and endured many hardships. When western Kansas opened in 1912 and offered opportunities for new homes, they decided to go there. They were among the first Mennonite that settled on these western plains northwest of Montezuma. Father was industrious and a good provider for his family. He had much interest and concern for the growth of the church, supporting it's program and giving generously to it's activities. In 1943 he retired from farming and moved to Winton, Calif. In 1956 they returned and entered the Bethel Home.

He enjoyed reasonably good health throughout his life. On Sept. 14, 1960, he suffered a heart attack and quietly and peacefully fell asleep in Jesus the following day.

His wife had been taken from his side May 5, 1956. While in the Home he read the Bible through several times, as well as many other religious books.

He leaves to mourn his departure, four sons and four daughters, two brothers, four sisters, 45 grandchildren, a large number of great-grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends. His wife, one daughter, and three grandchildren preceded him in death.

We mourn the loss of a kind and loving father, but not as such that have no hope. Father expressed his readiness to meet the Lord and left us a full assurance that he was entering into rest at the Lord's coming and would behold Him whom he loved and served while here in life.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday, Sept. 18, with David J. Koehn, F. H. Wenger, and John A. Koehn officiating. — The Family.
