Adolf Unruh

Adolf Unruh of Winnipeg passed away Feb. 23 following an accident at work. He was born Nov. 17, 1924 to Heinrich and Maria Unruh in Tiegenhagen, southern Russia. Originally named Abraham, he was required to change his name to Adolf when, as a young man, he fled to Germany with his family. He married Elise Annette Tongers Aug. 3, 1948 in a Luther an church in Strackholt, Germany, with Ps. 37:5 as the wedding text. They lived in the MCC refugee camp in Gronau. Here they attended MB baptismal classes, realized the need for personalizing their faith and were baptized in 1949. Later that year they immigrated to Canada, sponsored by David and Mary Dyck of Rosemary, Alta. In 1953 they moved to Winnipeg, joining other members of his family. They were members of North Kildonan MB Church, transferring to Central MB Church in 1962. For the last 21 years he taught the seniors Sunday school class, studying his lesson almost every evening. For most of his life he was self-employed in the construction industry. For the past five years he had been employed by Wilmar Windows, where he enjoyed the Christian fellowship. Predeceased by 1 brother and 1 sister, he is survived by his wife; children Karl, Helmut, Trudy Dyck, John, Erika and Abe; 11 grandchildren; 4 sisters and 2 brothers. The funeral was Feb. 27 in Central MB Church, with Abe Quiring ministering using their wedding theme, Ps. 37:5, as his text.
