JAKE UNGER
Jake Unger was born on December 6, 1929, in Coaldale, Alberta. At the age of four he moved with his family to Black Creek, Vancouver Island, where he grew up. He accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour, in his early youth, was baptized July 22, 1948 and became a member of the Black Creek MB Church. He was united in marriage to Kay Esau on April 15, 1952. They moved to the lower mainland where Jake taught school for approximately 20 years. Because of his cheerful disposition and wonderful sense of humor he endeared himself to his pupils wherever he taught.
The Lord's ways are higher than our ways and God's plan for Jake's life also included many years of illness and suffering . During nights of sleeplessness his talent for writing poetry came to the fore. The Lord gave grace to the family during difficult days and Jake had much joy in witnessing of the Lord's undertaking in his life. During the last few months of his life his testimony rang with a particular exuberance and victory. On the evening of November 18, 1971,God called him home.
Jake will be greatly missed in the family circle but they are comforted to know that he is present with the Lord and many loved ones. He was predeceased by four brothers. Mourning his departure are his wife, Kay; sons Gordon and Barry and daughter Pearl; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Unger, Black Creek; four sisters, Tina (Mrs. Corney) Thiessen, Anna (Mrs. Peter) Klassen, Mary (Mrs. John) Warkentin, Frieda (Mrs. Walter) Phillipsen; as well as many relatives, teaching associates, students and friends.
The funeral service was held at the Kennedy Heights Church, Delta, B.C . with Rev. Calvin Buehler ministering.
