EMMA FRANCES UNGER

Emma Frances Unger, daughter of Elmer J. and Sarah L. (Dintamin) Hartzler, died Jan. 24, 1965, in a Fresno, Calif. hospital following a heart attack. She was born June 30, 1910, in Harvey County, Kan., and reached the age of 54 years, six months, and 25 days.

In her youth she was baptized upon her confession of faith in Jesus Christ and received into the East Holbrook Mennonite Church, Cheraw, Colo., with Bishop J. A. Heatwole officiating.

In Dec. 15, 1929, she was united in holy matrimony with Orlando J. Unger by Rev. Allen H. Erb. to this union were born three sons, Jacob F., Russell M., and Harold V., and two daughters, Mrs. Patricia DuBois and Mrs. Elizabeth L. Belluomini. All of the children reside in Fresno, Calif. She is also survived by six grandsons and four granddaughters.

Besides her husband and family she is survived by two brothers, John S. Hartzler of Grand Rapids, Mich. and Daniel D. Hartzler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and three sisters, Mrs. Nellie M. Selzer of Protection, Kan., Mrs. Erie L. O’Driscoll of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Hannah E. Dingwell of Denver.

Early in life she became known for the friendly twinkle in her eyes, her cheery greetings, and her busy hands. She and her husband, a printer, lived in La Junta, Colo. until 1942 when they moved to Pueblo. She was active in the growth of the Pueblo Mennonite Church until her illness in 1949. Finally it was recommended by doctors that she seek a change in altitude and climate. In August 1950 the family moved to Fresno, where her health seemingly improved. She had several lesser attacks and was uable to attend church regularly due to health difficulties but she was always busy with her hands and happy to be alight to her neighbors and friends.

Her favorite verse, John 3:16, and the hymns she loved, “My God and I” and “His Eye Is On the Sparrow,” were included in the memorial services on Jan. 28, conducted by Rev. O. R. Grauman of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Interment was in Belmont Memorial Park, Fresno. — O. J. Unger and Family.
