Samuel D. Ulrich was born March 11, 1882, on a farm near Eureka, Ill., the third in the family of 12 children of Samuel and Veronica Ulrich.

The family moved to Nampa, Idaho in 1904. On Feb. 25, 1908, he married Amanda Nafziger in Caldwell, Idaho and the couple immediately went to his his homestead in the Fargo community, near Wilder, on which he had filed in February, 1906. They made this their home until 1945 when the farm was sold and they bought an acreage south of Caldwell. During the nine years until he retired and moved into Caldwell he did considerable carpenter work.

Mr. and Mrs. Ulrich were the parents of one son who died at birth.

In his early youth Mr. Ulrich was baptized upon confession of faith in Christ at Roanoke, Ill., and remained a faithful member of the Mennonite Church. During their residence in the Fargo community the couple attended the Fargo Community Church and the Golden Gate Church in Wilder. In 1947 he became a charter member of the First Mennonite Church of Caldwell and remained active until his death. He served as deacon until 1956, when his health began to fail. He had many friends, was always interested in the welfare of his neighbors and the betterment of his community.

He passed away suddenly at his home at 9:00 o'clock on Sunday morning, Sept. 29, at the age of 75 years, six months and 18 days.

He will be greatly missed by loved ones, friends and the church where he attended services so faithfully. though we sorrow, yet it is not as such who have no hope for we know that in due time we shall meet again.
