— Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Gaeddert attended funeral services at Marquette, Kan. Monday afternoon for their son-in-law, DeVere Uhler, 47, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack at his home there Friday morning, Jan. 16. the services were held at the Elim Lutheran Church, of which he was an active member and were largely attended. Mr. Uhler's wife, the former Lillian Gaeddert, prece3ded him in death Oct. 7, 1941. He was assistant postmaster at Marquette. Burial was made in the Marquette cemetery.

DEVERE UHLER

DeVere Raymond Uhler was born July 14, 1911, in Marquette, Kansas and passed away January 16, 1959, at the age of 47 years, six months, and two days.

He graduated from Marquette High School in 1929. Later he attended Bethany College, Lindsborg, Kansas, for one year and also Kansas State Agriculture [sic Agricultural] College, Manhattan, Kansas, for one year. After that he was engaged in the retail grocery business in Marquette.

On May 22, 1938, he was united in marriage to Lillian Gaeddert, who preceded him in death on Oct. 7, 1941.

DeVere received his Christian training in the Elim Lutheran Church. He was baptized and confirmed by Dr. G. A. Dorf. He was a loyal member of his church, having served on the church board, and served faithfully in various other capacities. At the time of his death he was Superintendent of the Sunday School.

Through the use of his artistic ability, DeVere enriched the lives of many people. He used his talents to glorify God and inspire his fellowmen. His friendliness and helpful spirit endeared him to many in Marquette, both young and old. His life has been an influence for good to many people. Truly he lived his life in the light of an ideal that he had set before himself, “Life is not a cup to be drained, but a measure to be filled.”

He is survived and mourned by his mother, Mrs. Edith Uhler of Marquette, Kansas; a brother, LeRoy Uhler, his wife Virginia and daughter Jill of Pratt, Kansas. His father, Raymond Elmer Uhler, preceded him in death Nov. 2, 1946. Besides those mentioned there is also a larger circle of relatives, and many friends who are saddened by his sudden passing.
