Young Truck Driver Crushed by 13-Ton Drag Line Bucket

Sugarcreek, Ohio. — A freak highway accident near Wilmot, Ohio resulted in instant death for Paul D. Troyer, 21-year-old Amish young man of Mt. Hope, employed as a truck driver by Mullet Coal Co.

A 13-ton dragline bucket being hauled on a lowboy truck tore loose from its moorings as the truck rounded a curve. It crashed onto the coal truck, crushing the cab and driver. A heavily loaded lumber truck barely missed the wreckage, according to a witness.

About 800 persons attended funeral services for the Troyer youth, son of Dan M. and Elizabeth Troyer. Several Lancaster County ministers took part in the services.
