VIVIAN RAE TROYER
Vivian Rae Troyer, 81, of Wellman, Iowa, died Jan. 27, 1997, at her home after a brief illness.
She was born Jan. 17, 1916, in rural Johnson County, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Clarissa Wagner Stutzman. Her mother died when she was 4, and she lived with Louis and Sara Miller until she was married. She attended Wellman High School.
Vivian married Orval Edgar Troyer on Dec. 24, 1934, in Wellman. They moved to Indiana in 1950. Later they lived in Arkansas, Colorado, Kansas, California, Oregon, Nebraska, Washington, Idaho, Missouri, Michigan and Florida before returning to Wellman in 1996.
Vivian worked as a nurse aide, including 20 years at Axtel [sic Axtell] Hospital in Newton, Kan. She also worked as a dietician and cook at Aspen, Colo., Huntington Lake, Calif., and Geneva, Neb. She attended Wellman Mennonite Church and enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by her husband, Orval; two daughters, Josephine and husband Lynn Byersdorf of Australia, and Clarissa and husband Dwayne Moench of Paso Robles, Calif.; four sons, Jerry and wife Cindy of Middlebury, Ind., James and wife Judy of Kansas City, Mo., Philip and wife Bonnie of Asheville, N.C., and Robert and wife Margriet of Aurora, Colo.; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Gatton of Chico, Calif.; and a brother, Carl Stutzman of Little Rock, Ark. She was preceded in death by an infant son; a grandson; and a brother, Glenn Stutzman.
Funeral services were held at Wellman Mennonite Church. Burial was in the Lower Deer Creek Cemetery.
