Young Man Loses His Life When Pickup Truck Overturns

MOSES TROYER INSTANTLY KILLED NEAR DARLOW LAST SATURDAY EVENING

Partridge, Kansas. — Moses Troyer, 16, son of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Troyer of near Castleton, was killed at 7:00 p. M. on Saturday, April 7, when he lost control of the pickup he was driving as he crossed the Santa Fe railroad tracks on a country road just west of Darlow. Troyer was taken to Grace hospital in Hutchinson but died en route.

Highway patrol men who investigated the accident said that Troyer apparently applied the brakes too hard as he approached the tracks, went off the road, hit the tracks and overturned several times, throwing him clear out of the truck.

the truck was a 1937 Studebaker pickup owned by Abe Yoder, who lives west of Darlow, where Troyer had been working. The unfortunate young man was rushing home to do the chores as his father is seirusly ill with rheumatism. Troyer sustained a fractured skull and a broken neck.

This is the second tragedy to befall the Troyer family. Nine years ago his brother, Willie, was fatally shot on his 18th birthday by a neighbor boy while shooting pigeons. Surviving are his parents; two sisters, Emma and Clara, of the home; five brothers, John in the navy; Ora, Haven township; Harry, Ted and Jerry of the home.

Mose was a member of the Yoder (Old) Mennonite church.
