JACOB D. TROYER

Jacob D. Troyer, son of Jerry M. and Susanna (Schlabaugh) Troyer, was born in Holmes County, Ohio, Feb. 4, 1871, and died July 30, 1956, at the home of his son-in-law, Lee R. Kempf, Tampico, Ill. aged 85 years, five months, and 26 days. His death came as a result of a cerebral hemorrhage suffered in April 1955.

In his youth he accepted Christ as his Saviour. He was a member of the Amish Mennonite Church of Tampico, Ill. at the time of his death. He lived in many different places and was always active in the church where he lived as long as health permitted.

On Jan. 23, 1891, he was married to Elizabeth Troyer at Middlebury, Ind. She died Dec. 6, 1915. this union was blessed with nine children: Barbara (Mrs. Harry Stutzman) deceased; Mary (Mrs. Lee Niffenegger), Sarasota, Florida; Lydia (Mrs. Leroy Miller), Kalona, Iowa; Elizabeth (Mrs. Ralph Stutzman), Iowa City, Iowa; Oliver, Hutchinson, Kansas; Jerry, New Holland, Penn.; Levi, Ashland, Kentucky; Mada (Mrs. Jacob Stoltzfus), Ardmore, Penn.; and Velma (Mrs. Walter Dussinger) Lancaster, Penn.

On December 19, 1916,he was married to Elizabeth Miller of Kalona, Iowa who died Feb. 27,1918. On May 9, 1920, he married Emma (Zook) Hochstetler at Shelbyville, Ill., who survives him. Also surviving are three stepchildren: Effie (Mrs. L. C. Swartzendruber) with whom they made their home since 1944; Ella (Mrs. Lee Kempf) at whose home he passed away; and Emory Hochstetler of Clearwater, Florida. Three half brothers and two half sisters also survive: James, Shipshewana, Ind.; Daniel LaGrange, Ind.; Mattie (Mrs. Ora Miller) LaGrange, Ind.; Sara (Mrs. Will Lantz), Goshen, Ind.; and Oliver Elkhart, Ind. Nine brothers and sisters preceded him in death.

There are 50 grandchildren and 88 great-grandchildren, as well as many other relatives and friends who mourn his passing. He was a lover of children and his family meant much to him. Twice within the past ten years, as many of his children and grandchildren and families as could arrange to be there, gathered with him on the banks of the beautiful Shipshewana Lake for three -day reunions. These events were highlights in his declining years. The next reunion with him will be in Glory.

Funeral services were held August 2, 1956, at the Amish Mennonite Church, Tampico, Ill., in charge of Herman Hostetler, Ova Hostetler, and J. John J. Miller (grandson of the deceased), Scripture texts used were Psalms 103, 90 and John 14.
