Retired Missionary Dies at Goshen
Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for Dr. George D. Troyer, 79, longtime medical missionary of the (Old) Mennonite Church, were conducted at the College Mennonite Church on Monday evening, Dec. 8. Final services and burial took place the following forenoon at the Howard-Miami Mennonite Church near Kokomo.
Dr. Troyer who suffered from a heart ailment, died Dec. 5 at Goshen General Hospital.
A native of Howard County, Indiana, he attended both Goshen and Marion colleges and received his medical degree from the University of Chicago in 1922. The following year he went to India where he was medical director of the Dhamtari Christian Hospital for 13 years. He then practice medicine at Fisher, Ill. for eight years, and in 1944 went to Puerto Rico where he was a medical worker for many years under the MCC and the Mennonite Board of Missions. He moved to Goshen in 1967.
Surviving in addition to his widow, the former Kathryn Sommers, are four children, Nortell of Terre Haute, Mrs. Lawrence Greaser of Aibonito, Puerto Rico, Dr. Dana and Dr. G. Weldon, both of Goshen; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
