Aged Indiana Minister, Church Leader Died

D. D. TROYER, 83, WAS ACTIVE IN CONFERENCE & RURAL MISSION WORK

Goshen, Ind. — Rev. D. D. Troyer, widely known retired minister and bishop of the Clinton Frame Mennonite church near here, died at the home east of Goshen July 18 at the age of 83.

Funeral services were held at the Clinton Frame church on Tuesday, July 21, in charge of Ira Johns, Vernon Bontrager and Edwin Yoder. Bro. Troyer was ordained to the ministry for the local congregation at the age of 22 and had served in the ministry for over 60 years. He was ordained bishop in 1920.

His service to the church and conference included terms as president and vice-president of the Executive Committee, Mennonite Publishing House; superintendent of the rural mission field of the Indiana-Michigan Conference; and a member of the conference executive committee for 18 years. He was also a member of the Mennonite Educational Finance Corp. during the construction of Coffman Hall and the remodeled Kulp Hall at Goshen College.

Bro. Troyer, son of Noah L. and Mary Schrock Troyer, was married to Mary Elizabeth Pletcher in 1892. She died in 1946. He is survived by his second wife, the former Ada Lehman; a son Oscar of Goshen; four grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
