SEVERT EMIL TORKELSON

Severt Emil Torkelson was born in Christiana, Norway, March 4, 1880, and passed away at Brooks Hospital, Brooks, Alberta, Can., on May 4, 1967, aged 87 years, two months.

He was the son of the late Severt and Elizabeth Fryland Torkelson, who immigrated to Kansas in 1881. On Feb. 23, 1910 he was married to Rosa Eggers. To this union were born seven sons.

The family moved to Alberta, Canada, in 1924.

He is survived by six sons, Ernest, Chambersburg, Pa., Sherman, Boise, Idaho, Bennett, Norman, Duchess, Alta., Arthur, Laytonsville, Md., Milk River, Alta., and Kenneth, Duchess, Alta.; three brothers, Enos and Benjamin, Everest, Kan., and Abraham, Lawrence, Kan.; 29 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his wife, one son and seven granddaughters.

He became a member of the Mennonite church in 1925 and had a great burden and concern for the church.

Funeral were held May 8, 1967, at the Bethel Mennonite Church, Duchess, Alta., in charge of me2rvin Baer and Dan Schlabach. Interment was in the Duchess Cemetery.
