Inman, Kans.—Funeral services for Rev. Henry Toews, 53, former missionary to the Belgian Congo in Africa, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethel Mennonite church south of Inman, of which he was a member. Rev. Toews passed away Saturday, July 24, at the Bethel Deaconess hospital in Newton after a long period of failing health.

Rev. and Mrs. Toews had served two terms at Nyanga Station in the Belgian Congo under the Congo Inland Mission, going out to the field for the first time in 1936. During his second term of service in Africa Rev. Toews suffered a sunstroke, and it is believed the intense heat this summer hastened his death.

The funeral services were widely attended, friends and relatives filling the newly completed church almost to capacity. Rev. P. T. Neufeld, the pastor, was in charge and gave the sermon. Also taking part were Rev. A. E. Kreider of Goshen, Ind., representing the Congo Inland Mission Board and Rev. S. J. Goering of North Newton, representing the Board of Missions of the General Conference. Music was given by the men's chorus of the church. At the graveside, a quartet sang and Rev. A. J. Dirks of Inman conducted the committal service.

Rev. Toews is survived by his wife and two children, Paul H. and Carol.

Africa Missionary Called Away in Death

SERVICES FOR REV. HENRY TOEWS HELD TUESDAY AT BETHEL CHURCH, INMAN

Inman, Kans.—Funeral services for Rev. Henry Toews, 53, former missionary to the Belgian Congo in Africa, were held Tuesday afternoon at the Bethel Mennonite church south of Inman, of which he was a member. Rev. Toews passed away Saturday, July 24, at the Bethel Deaconess hospital in Newton after a long period of failing health.
