TUMBLES INTO ICY WATERS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA RIVER
Sardis, B. C. — After an extended search the body of Peter Toews, 40, was recovered from the icy waters of the Vedder river near here.
Mr. Toews was fishing in the river Jan. 22 when he slipped on icy rocks and tumbled into the river. Frank Toews, his brother-in-law, was standing a short distance away when the accident occurred.
The RCMP and members of the Chilliwack Fish and Game Assn. dragged the river all of the following day in an effort to locate the body. An army barge also was used in the search, which was hampered by ice and snow.
