JACOB J. TOEWS

Jacob J. Toews, 56, of Winnipeg went to his eternal rest on February 17, less than a month after the passing of his father. The funeral was in the Elmwood Mennonite Brethren Church on February 21 with Rev. Wm. Schmidt and Rev. J. B. Wiens ministering.

He was born on April 19, 1911 in Tiegenhagen, South Russia, the eldest child and only son of Jacob and Agatha (nee Konrad) Toews. He received his elementary education in Russia and spent his childhood there. At 11 years he accepted Christ as personal Saviour. In 1924 his faInily moved to Canada, first to Ontario and then to LaSalle, Manitoba. In 1928 they came to Winnipeg. Jacob was baptized in 1930 by Rev. C. N. Hiebert and became a member of the Northend Church (later Elmwood. He loved to sing and for many years was a member of the church choir.

After completing high school studies at St. John's Technical High School in Winnipeg, Jacob found employment with CNR, for whom he worked until 1967. Later he worked with Dominion Patrol Commission in Winnipeg.

He is survived by four sisters, Mrs. Ed (Elizabeth) Klassen in the U.S., and Agatha, Margaret and Mary at home.
