EVA HUEBERT TOEWS
Eva Huebert Toews was born July 15, 1887 near Henderson, Neb. Here she spent her childhood days and attended the elementary schools. As a teen-age girl she recognized her lost condition and accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her personal Savior. In 1905 she was baptized together with 85 other candidates and united with the Mennonite Brethren Church.
On Sept. 13, 1906, she was united in holy matrimony to G. G. Toews. This union which lasted 57 years and six months, was blessed with four daughters and two sons.
Mother was a praying and singing mother, and we enjoyed our life together. The first 10 years were spent on a farm near Henderson. From 1916-1931 we lived at Enid, Okla. with the exception of two years spent at Collinsville, Okla. In 1931 we moved back to Nebraska and then came to Reedley, Calif. in 1945. Here we spent some time on a small farm.
On May 15, 1954, she had a stroke. This was followed by a second stroke on Aug. 2, 1956. We then moved to the city of Reedley where we have made our home ever since. For the last three years she was rather helpless, had been bedfast since Dec. 5.
We had the privilege of commemorating our 50th wedding anniversary in 1957.
The Lord called her away to glory Friday night, March 13, 1964. She reached the age of 76 years, seven months, and 28 days.
Those who remain to mourn her departure are her husband, of Reedley; four daughters, Sarah, Mrs. John Kroeker of Fresno, Helen, Mrs. Sam Buller of Dinuba, Anna, Mrs. Albert Schultz of San Jose, Mary, Mrs. Bill Brandt of Dinuba; two sons, John of Dinuba and Melvin of San Jose; 19 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. J. K. Regier and Mrs. Dietrich Janzen of Henderson, Neb.; three brothers, Klass [sic Claus] Huebert of Fresno, Ike Huebert of Norwalk, Calif., and Henry Huebert of Madrid, Neb. Two sisters, four brothers and one great-grandchild preceded her in death.
The memorial service was held at the Mennonite Brethren Church of Reeedley with the pastor, Dan Friesen, officiating. — The Husband and Family.
