LEADING LAYMAN OF ALBERTA CHURCH CALLED AWAY IN DEATH

Coaldale, Alberta. — Funeral services were conducted at the Mennonite Brethren church here Feb. 21 for Abram A. Toews, a leading layman of the church who died Feb. 17 after several years of illness.

Surviving children include Abe of Coaldale; Helen Toews, a missionary in Brazil; John, of the University of Colorado; and two nephews who are also foster children of the Toews, Rev. P. R. Toews of Vancouver and Victor Toews of Winnipeg.

Abram A. Toews

Abram A. Toews passed away in Coaldale, Alta., on Feb. 17 of a lengthy illness. He was born in Alexanderkron, S. Russia, in 1887. He came to Winnipeg with his family in 1926 and moved to Coaldale in 1927. Until his retirement in 1958, he farmed in the Coaldale district. He leaves his wife Helene (Janz), four sons, three daughters, one brother and 21 grandchildren.
