MRS. ESTHER TIESZEN

My beloved wife and our mother Esther Tieszen, nee Deckert, was born December 7, 1904 on her parent’s farm five miles est of Marion, South Dakota. She died Monday, May 4, at 6:15 p. m.

She spent her childhood and young years with her parents on the farm. Her early schooling was received n the home school. Later she attended the preparatory school of Mountain Lake, Minn. for one year, and also Freeman Academy for one year.

In 1922 she accepted the Lord Jesus as her personal Savor, and in the same year was baptized by Rev. George Schultz of Chicago and received as a member into the E. M. B. church of Marion, South Dakota.

On October 9, 1941 she was united with Diedrich F. Tieszen in the holy bonds of matrimony, which was of the short duration of 28 years and six months. Into this union were born five children, two sons and three daughters.

The first years of married life were spent settled on a farm two and a half miles northwest of Marion. In 1941 they moved to the farm where the family now resides.

Until 1943 she enjoyed fairly good health. From then on her health began to fail and she was advised to submit to surgery. In September 1943 she underwent a minor operation from which she speedily recovered. In May 1947 she submitted to a major operation, and again in February 1948 other complications necessitated surgery. Three more serious operations were required in the spring of 1952. She enjoyed unusually good health at intervals, especially the last summer. To our disappointment her health again failed in December 1952. Now the doctor’s diagnoses revealed an advanced internal cancer from which she suffered intensely for four and one half months which also caused her early death.

Her family was very dear to her, and she had a deep concern for their spiritual welfare. In the early stages of her suffering she prayed earnestly for recovery, but during the last days of her life she repeatedly expressed the longing to be relieved and to meet her Saviour whom she loved dearly. In 1947 we joined the M. B. church of which she remained a faithful member to the end.

She reached the age of 48 years four months and 27 days.

She leaves to mourn her departure, her bereaved husband; two daughters, Beverly, Mrs. Robert Rabenhorst of Spencer, South Dakota, Skyla at home, one son Delano at home, one son-in-law, one grandson, her mother, four brothers, Joe, Edward, and Maynard of Marion, South Dakota, and Arthur of Vancouver, Washington; three sisters, Minnie, Mrs. Bernard Becker, Bertha, Mrs. Abram Olfert, and Alvina, Mrs. Ed. Becker, of Marion, South Dakota and a host of relatives and friends.

Those who preceded her in death were one son Kenneth, who died in infancy, one daughter Lenore who died at the age of 13 months, her father, one sister, LuVerna, Mrs. Henry Warkentin, and one brother Otto.

We mourn, but not as those who have no hope. We look forward to meeting her again in the glorious presence of he Lord
