MRS. HERTA THIESSEN

(Mrs.) Herta Thiessen, the daughter of Peter and Justina Krahn, was born in Russia on October 3, 1924. The family emigrated to Canada in 1928. In her teen years she received the Lord as her personal Saviour, was baptized and joined the Mennonite Church. Her devotion for Jesus increased with the years.

On June 25, 1949 she married Victor F. Thiessen. One daughter and four sons were born to them. Both were teachers, and before settling down in Abbotsford, B.C. in 1969 and joining the South Abbotsford Mennonite Brethren Church there, the Thiessens taught in Gretna, Man.; Abbotsford, and Langley, B.C.; Ghana, West Africa; and Trinidad, West Indies. She was known as a wonderful wife. mother and hostess, who made longlasting friendships and a spiritual impact on many lives.

In recent years she became involved in organizations like FISH and Birthright and was a strong witness to the power of God to heal broken relationships. Cancer was first detected in the spring of 1975. On May 9, after spending the last three weeks at home where she received loving care from her family and friends, she passed into the presence of the Lord. To the end God wonderfully sustained her spirit. Pastor Don Balzer and Rev.,J. Friesen officiated at the funeral.

Left to mourn are her husband, Victor; one daughter, Erica, in Haiti; four sons, Fred , Victor Jr. , Carl and John; her mother in Altona. Man.; three brothers, George, Henry and Ernie; three sisters, Lini (Mrs . Ted) Friesen, Susan (Mrs. Virgil) Miller and Frieda (Mrs. Hudy) Klassen; and many relatives and friends.
