teuren Hinterbliebenen. Zum Trost Jes. 35. Wir erwarten für nächste Nummer einen näheren
Bericht und Lebensbeschreibung.
The editor’s family received the sad news quite unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon that Aunt P. W.
Thiessen, Reedley, California, died on Monday. She had not been in very good health for some
years, but the telegram was quite unexpected. Our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved
families. Isaiah 35 [is suggested] for comfort. We expect a more detailed report and biography
for the next issue.

Elisabeth Thiesen [sic] heimgegangen.

Reedley, California.
Elisabeth Thiesen [sic] has gone home.

It is ordained in God's counsel that one must part with the dearest that one has.
Yes, we also had to experience this in these days, because it pleased the dear heavenly Father
to release my dear wife from her suffering. Since she is quite well known because of her fate in
Asia, since her first husband, Heinrich Abrams, was murdered by night invaders, I will report
several lines about her illness and her death. We have shared about 21 years of joys and
sorrows, of which unfortunately she has had the most (i.e. the sorrows). The last eight years she
was suffering, even if some who knew her could not see it.
9
A little less than two years ago, she became very ill and the doctors believed that she had
dropsy. She had the water removed twice, after which she felt lighter again, and was actually
very lively for the last five weeks, so that we had some hope for recovery. But the Lord's ways
were different from ours, for as lively as she was on the morning of July 20, it was much worse
in the afternoon. We, like her, thought it would pass, but it got worse and worse, so that towards
the end she could no longer speak well. Several times she said, in answer to our questions, that
she wanted to go home to be with the Savior. She passed away quietly on the same day at 5
o'clock in the afternoon. There has been a great void in our home, which only those who have
experienced it can understand; but I will surrender to the Lord's will, and I am grateful to know
that we must not grieve as those who have no hope. She turned 45 years of age a few days
ago. Seven children have preceded her into eternity, and five, all grown up, except little Peter,
who is only ten years old, and who is probably the hardest hit, mourn her so early departure.
She was a true helper to me and always had words of encouragement when dark clouds
passed by. How short it seems to me, the time that we were together, and thus the time flies,
and soon, yes soon, we will be there, where there will be no more parting. I and the children
would be happy to receive letters of condolence from friends and acquaintances.
Your deeply grieved friend and brother, P. W. Thiessen.
Reedley, California.
