NETTIE THIESSEN

Nettie Thiessen of Clearbrook, B.C. passed away on April 23. She was born to Bernhard and Agneta Thiessen on September 3D, 1902 in Russia. In 1924 her family of seven brothers and six sisters immigrated to Canada. On the way her brother Peter broke his leg, and Nettie stayed behind with him until the leg healed. Then they followed the rest to near Winkler, Man. Four years later the family moved to Killarney, Man., where Nettie was baptized and became a member of the Holmfield Mennonite Brethren Church. For many years she worked as a "hired girl" on various farms in southern Manitoba. In 1943 she underwent surgery, and never completely regained her strength afterwards. For several years she lived with and looked after older people. In 1963 she moved to B.C., and in 1967 to the Tabor Home in Clearbrook, B.C.

She endeared herself to her many friends and relatives by her cheerful disposition, and she was the favorite aunt of her many nieces and nephews. She leaves to mourn brothers and sisters: Aron and Anna Thiessen of Clearbrook, Peter and Helen Thiessen, (Mrs.) Sarah Enns, Corny and Mary Brown, all of Winkler, George and Anne Thiessen of Bluffton, Alta., Margaret and Nick Friesen of Winnipeg, (Mrs.) Helen Neufeld of Arden, Man., Jacob and Elizabeth Brown of Langley, B.C. and Peter and Tina Brown of Dugald, Man. The funeral was held at the South Abbotsford (B.C.) Mennonite Brethren Church, with pastor Don Balzer officiating and Dave Friesen speaking.
