text of obituary:
MARIE L. THIESSEN
Our sister, Marie L. Thiessen, was born in Tiege, Molotschna, South Russia on Aug. 10, 1872, and died at the Euclid Nursing Home in Upland, Calif. on Jan. 24 at the age of 85 years.
At the age of 20 she was baptized in Neukirchen and became a member of the Mennonite church.
In 1893 she with her parents and family came to the United States and she lived in Newton, Kan. until her marriage to Jacob S. Thiessen on Feb. 22, 1897. Her uncle, Rev. David Goerz, performed the ceremony in the Bethel College Chapel.
Since her husband was employed in California by the Union Pacific Railway, they established their home here and lived here all of their married life with the exception of six years when they lived near Walters, Okla. In 1947 they were privileged to celebrate the 50th weddnig [sic] anniversary.
In 1951, due to ill health and advanced years, her husband entered Kings View Homes, and she came to Upland to live with her sisters. Repeated cancer operations had proven successful and she had several years of comfort with no suffering.
The last four years she was a resident of Rose Hoover Rest Home, Baldwin Park. At Christmas time she came home for a visit. Her last illness started with a heavy cold resulting in lung congestion. Other complications set in to which she succumbed.
Funeral services were conducted by our pastor, Paul Goering, at the Stone Chapel, with entombment in Rose Hill Mausoleum, Whittier.
Surviving are four sisters, Mrs. Agnes Green, Mrs. Susie Reimer and Mrs. Helen Simpkinson, all of Upland, and Mrs. E. G. Hillendahl of Tracy; two brothers, J. H. Isaac of Sacramento and T. J. Isaac of Covina, Calif. Her husband preceded her in death in 1952.
