MARIA THIESSEN

(Mrs.) Maria Thiessen was born in southern Russia, in the village of Apuchten, on March 25, 1887. On October 23, 1909 she was married to Abram Isaak Thiessen. They joined the Mennonite Brethren church in 1921. They were able to celebrate their sixtieth wedding anniversary by God's grace on October 12, 1969. The difficult years of the Russian Revolution motivated them to seek a new home in Canada, and in 1926 they immigrated to this country. For two years they lived in New Hamburg, Ontario, and since 1928 in Port Rowan, Ontario. Mrs. Thiessen passed away in the Norfolk General Hospital on December 2, 1970. She is survived by her husband, Abram; three sons, Isaak, Abram and Peter, and their wives, all of Port Rowan; and two daughters, Marie and Anna. A son, William, predeceased her at two years.
