HENRY EDWIN THIESSEN
Henry Edwin Thiessen was born to the late Rev. and Mrs. David Thiessen on October 15, 1943 in Winkler, Man. He became a Christian at an early age, was baptized and joined the Arnaud (Man.) Mennonite Brethren Church. Two winter sessions at the Winkler Bible Institute followed high school; during the summers he helped with the family farm. The passing of his father in 1967 left him to operate the farm with his brother. The following year, on July 13, 1968, he married Sue Peters. They worked the farm for two and a half more years, then moved to Winnipeg, where Henry worked as mechanic for two years.
Two years of study at the University of Manitoba brought him a Diploma in Agriculture. He was hired by the Saskatchewan government and posted at Tisdale to act as a counsellor for the Land Bank Commission. In September, 1977 he was transferred to Moose Jaw. While visiting Regina for a meeting on January 31, 1978, Henry was suddenly called home after a heart attack.
Henry was an active churchman. He was always willing to help anyone in need. His love for his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, was his strong support during his frequent difficult times in his short life. Henry was much appreciated in the Regal Heights Mennonite Brethren Church in Moose Jaw. Because of the number of people attending the funeral service, it was moved to the larger Alliance Church on Saturday, February 4.
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Sue; by his son, Trevor, and two daughters, Candace and Jennifer; his mother, (Mrs.)Mary Thiessen of Winnipeg; his brothers and sisters and their spouses: Rudy and Susan Thiessen, Walter and Louise Derksen, Ben and Erna Thiessen, Waldo and Alda Thiessen, Peter and Margaret Thiessen, Jake and Helen Penner, Aron and Freda Loewen, Abe and Eva Harder, Glen and Erna Whetter, Dan and June Thiessen, John and Rita Thiessen, Vern and Gail Thiessen, and Ben and Viola Harder, and many friends.
