MRS. EMMA SWARTZENDRUBER
Emma Swartzendruber, daughter of John and Magdalene King Yordy, was born in Bureau County, Ill. on Oct. 28, 1871.
Later with her parents she moved west, living in Nebraska and Colorado. In 1895 her family moved to Wellman, Iowa, in which vicinity she lived the rest of her life.
On Feb. 16, 1890, she was married to Peter P. Swartzendruber at Thurman, Colo. He preceded her in death May 3, 1939. To this union three children were born: John Y. of Kalona, Herman G. and Magdalene of Wellman.
In her youth she united with the Mennonite church and was a faithful member of the Wellman church at the time of her death. She always manifested a deep concern for the church, her children and grandchildren, and enjoyed attending services when health permitted.
Besides the above named children she also leaves to mourn her passing two sisters, Mrs. Bella Schrock of Albany, Ore. and Mrs. Elizabeth Erb of Colorado Springs, Colo.; seven grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; a step daughter-in-law, Nellie Swartzendruber of Aurora, Neb. one stepgrandson, one step great-granddaughter, one step great-great-granddaughter, and many other relatives and friends.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by a step-son, Lewis of Aurora, Neb.; eight brothers and two sisters.
Eight months prior to her death she submitted to surgery. This, followed by complications and the infirmities of ald [sic old], age, resulted in her passing away quietly in her sleep Nov. 8, 1958, at her house in Wellman, at the age of 87 years and 11 days.
Services were held Nov. 10 at the Wellman church by Max Yoder and Geo. S. Miller. Interment was made in the Lower Deer Creek cemetery.
