SAMUEL SUTTER

Samuel Sutter was born December 10, 1892 in Wilhelmstal, South Russia. He accepted the Lord in his teens, was baptized by Jacob Mueller and received into the Baptist church there.

In World War I he was taken prisoner by the German army, and stayed in Germany until 1924 when his cousin, John Lautermilch of Woodrow, Sask., made it possible for him to come to Canada. Two years later he took up farming on his own, which he continued until his retirement.

He married Emma Welk in 1926, a union blessed with three daughters and one son. Both became members of the Woodrow Mennonite Brethren Church where he served faithfully as a Sunday school teacher, deacon and leader for many years.

They retired in 1962 and moved into the town of Woodrow. In 1972 they moved to Swift Current where Mr. Sutter passed away Nov. 30, 1973 after a lengthy illness. Rev. H. C. Schroeder of Woodrow and Rev. Peter Nikkel of Swift Current officiated at the funeral.

He leaves to mourn his wife Emma; daughters Laura of Swift Current, Mrs. Tina Erb of Mossbank, Sask. and Mrs. Alice Wald of Kincaid, Sask.; son Wally and wife of Woodrow; and six grandchildren.
