Former Pax Worker Killed When Heavy Equipment Overturns
Hopedale, Ill. — This community was saddened when Elton Sutter, 34, was killed Saturday morning, Aug. 21, while operating earth moving equipment on a farm near Danvers. The heavy machine tipped over on him, causing instant death, and then rolled off.
Largely attended funeral services were held Aug. 24 at the Hopedale Mennonite Church with Rev. Ivan Kaufmann and Rev. Edward Springer in charge. John Zook of Goshen, Ind. attended and spoke of his high esteem for Elton and of this faithfulness in teaching Korean boys the value of work while on a Pax assignment in Korea. One of those Korean boys, now a student at Goshen College, also attended the services.
Elton, a mechanic, and Allen D. Litwiller of this area served in Korea about 10 years ago.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel, a sister, Fannie, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Sutter, all of this community.
