Crash in Fog Claims Lives of Two Youths

FATAL ACCIDENT NORTH OF GOSHEN, INDIANA ON DECEMBER 3I

Goshen, Ind. — Funeral services for two young men who lost their lives in a highway accident at the north edge of Goshen Dec 31 took place at Middlebury on Thursday, Jan. 3.

Services for Amos J. Hostetler, 17, son of Jerry Hostetlers, were held Thursday forenoon at David Mast home, Albert Graber and Ora Graber officiating. The services for Fred Stutzman, also 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph L. Stutzman, Goshen, took place in the afternoon at the Middlebury Mennonite church, Wilbur Yoder and Harold Yoder officiating.

The fatal accident was one of several crashes in this area on Dec. 31 resulting from the dense fog on that day which limits visibility to 100 feet or less. The car occupied by four youths side swiped an oil transport on Highway 15 just north of Goshen. David Stutzman, 16, brother of Fred, and Clarence Chupp, 16 of northeast of Goshen, were treated at Goshen hospital for severe Injuries, Chupp suffering a fractured leg.

Besides his parents, the Hostetler youth leaves 13 brothers and sisters. Fred Stutzman, who was born at Hubbard, Ore. on Feb 11, 1934, leaves his parents and four sisters. Both young men had been employed part time at the Middlebury Produce company besides helping at home on the farm and the group was reportedly en route to a broiler farm to help catch chickens.
