SAM P. STUCKY

Samuel Paul Stucky, son of Simon J. and Ida Juhnke Stucky, was born on a farm at McPherson, Kan. on May 14, 1923.

He attended King City Elementary School, McPherson High School, and Bethel College. At the age of 16 he recognized his need of a personal Savior and accepted Jesus. He was baptized by Rev. P. R. Voth on May 28, 1939 and became a member of the Hopefield Mennonite Church, of which he remained a faithful member until his death. He was active in the church, teaching in the Sunday school and serving on the church board as long as his health permitted.

On Dec. 6. 1945, he was married to Evelyn Zerger. Together they shared life’s joys and heartaches for 24 years. To this union six children were born. Their life on the farm was a source of inspiration to him. He used every opportunity to instill responsibility and communicate insights about life to his children as they performed the many tasks together.

In April, 1969 he submitted to surgery at Wesley Hospital, Wichita from which he never fully recovered. His cheerful disposition and determination were an inspiration to his loved ones. He often expressed a great concern for the well-being and future of his children.

He died on Jan. 23, 1970, at the Bethel Hospital at the age of 46 years.

He leaves to mourn his early departure his loving wife, Evelyn; three sons, Lyle, Larry and Lynn; three daughters, Denise, Donna and Danielle; three sisters, Anna Holloway, Adina and husband Dan Schrag of Hesston, and Dorothy and husband Herman Schrag of McPherson; his parents-in-law; five sisters-in-law and five brothers-in-law, and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Milford John, and a brother-in-law, Carl Holloway.

As a memorial the Sam Stucky Cancer Fund has been set up at People’s State Bank, McPherson, Kan.
