SOLOMON S. STUCKY

Solomon Samuel Stucky was born April 18, 1887 at Moundridge, Kan., the son of Jonathan and Katherine Stucky. He departed this life on Dec. 8, 1959, at the age of 72 years, seven months and 20 days.

At the age of 15, he was baptized upon confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, and became a member of the First Mennonite church of Christian, Moundridge, Kansas. He was a faithful member for many years. At the time of his death he was a member of Lawrence Baptist church of Lawrence, Mich., of which his son was the pastor.

His deep and abiding faith created in him a gentleness of spirit, an honesty of heart and a concern for the welfare of others which caused everyone who knew him to love him.

On Sept. 22, 1912 he was married to Celia Hurlbut, who shared life's joys and sorrows with him for over 47 years. To this union 11 children were born, one of whom dies in infancy. Besides a large circle of friends, those who mourn his departure are his wife, Melva, (Mrs. Ellis Johnson) of Wichita, Kansas, Solomon of Lawrence, Mich., Glennis, (Mrs. Ferris Jabury) of Grand Rapids, Mich., Warren of Haysville, Kan., and Leland of Newton, Kan.

Also grieving over his departure are five daughters-in-law, four sons-in-law, 26 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Christian Stucky of Eads, Colo., three sisters, Elma (Mrs. Peter Schroeder) of Newton, Miss Clara, and Miss Olga Stucky of Wichita, and many nieces and nephews.

Because his life so completely exemplified the teachings of Jesus Christ, many were drawn closer to God. the memory of a good and gentle man will live long in the hearts of those who knew him.

Funeral services were conducted from the Covey Hill Baptist church. The officiating minister was Rev. Walter Gering, pastor of the Elkhart, Ind. Mennonite church and former pastor of the Eden Mennonite church, Moundridge, Kansas. Burial was in a little country cemetery near his home at Rural Route 2, Gobles, Mich.
