SAMUEL P. I. STUCKY

Samuel P. I. Stucky, son of Peter T. and Ida Gehring Stucky, was born in McPherson county near Moundridge, Kansas on Sept. 7, 1918. He spent his boyhood days on the farm near Moundridge and received his elementary education in Mound School in McPherson county.

On June 23, 1935, he was baptized upon the confession of his faith by Rev. C. J. Goering, and was received into the membership of the Eden Mennonite church. Here he remained a loyal member until his membership was later transferred to the First Mennonite church of Burns, Kansas.

On the same date of his baptism and in the same church was also baptized Florence Virginia Goering, to whom he was united in Holy Marriage on Dec. 7, 1939. With her he was permitted to spend 9 years and 9 months of his life and share with her joys and sorrows, both of which there were many. Together their life was lived in mutual un-understanding [sic] and in great love one for another, always cheering and comforting one another.

To this union two sons were born, Darrel Keith and Jerald Duane. Jerald Duane was called to his home in Glory on the day of his birth. Darrel, now 8 years old, was permitted to live with them to bless the home with his presence.

Shortly after their marriage they made their home on a farm near Burns, Kansas where they lived until the passing of Bro. Stucky. Here they joined the newly organized First Mennonite church of Burns on June 16, 1944, being among the group of charter members of the same. Of this church brother Stucky remained a loyal member until his death, always taking an active part in all the church activities.

On Sept. 2, 1949, he was admitted to the Bethel Deaconess hospital, Newton, where the doctors diagnosed his case as acute nephritis. His condition grew continuously worse and he suffered very much until his passing on Sept 19, 1949, at 11:25 p. m.

He was preceded in death by one son, Jerald, and by one brother, Phillip. He leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife; one son, Darrel; his parents; one sister, Esther; seven brothers, Jonas, David, Paul, Silas, John, Joseph, and Daniel; 11 sisters-in-law; 8 brothers-in-law; 17 uncles and 17 aunts, six nieces, two nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

The 7th day of the month seemed to be one of significance for him. His birthday fell on the 7th of September, his wife’s birthday on the 7th of July, his wedding day on the 7th of December, and their first son was born on the 7th of October. His lot in life was one of much suffering. He was admitted into the hospital on five different occasions. In 1942 he submitted to an appendectomy. In 1943 he was admitted to the hospital for rheumatic fever. In 1945 he spent 11 weeks in the hospital following a severe automobile accident. In 1946 he was admitted because of pneumonia.

He always bore his suffering with much patience. Seldom ever was he heard to complain. Because of his long suffering patience it is presumed that he might have suffered much more than we, ever realized.

— Funeral services for Samuel P. I. Stucky, 31, of Burns were held Thursday forenoon, Sept. 22, at the First Mennonite church of Burns. Mr. Stucky passed away at the Bethel Deaconess hospital on Sept. 19, after being a patient there since Sept. 22. A native of the Moundridge community, he had lived at Burns since his marriage to Florence Virginia Goering in December, 1939. She survives, as well as an eight year old son, Darrel, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter T. Stucky.
