— Funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Eden Mennonite church near Moundridge for John D. Stucky, 76, who died at his home in Moundridge Friday morning, Feb. 5, after a long illness. The services were in charge of Rev. Arnold Nickel, the pastor. Mr. Stucky was a lifelong resident of the Moundridge community. He leaves his widow, Ida, five daughters, six sons, two step-children, four brothers and 22 grandchildren. Children living in Newton are Agnes, Rueben R. Melvin R. and Leroy H. Stucky.

JOHN D. STUCKY

John D. Stucky, son of Jacob L. and Elisabeth Goering Stucky, was born Sept. 2, 1883, on a farm near Moundridge, Kansas. Here he spent the early part of his life and also attended the public and parochial schools.

In early youth he gave his life and heart to his Master by accepting Jesus christ as his personal Saviour, whereupon he was baptized by Rev. David Gerber and received as a member of the Eden Mennonite church on Oct. 8, 1899.

He was united in holy matrimony with Tilly Schrag on Feb. 16, 1908, and together they shared life's joys and sorrows for approximately 29 years. She passed on to her reward on May 28, 1937. A son, Elmer, preceded her in death. On Nov. 26, 1943, he married Mrs. Ida Krehbiel Albrecht, and with her shared life's companionship for over 16 years. John was sincere in his spiritual life, faithful and active as a church member, serving as deacon for six years, teaching Sunday School classes for many years, and engaging in a number of other church activities.

For many years his health had failed and his strength steadily decreased. During the last three years he was an invalid, passing his time with prayer, Bible reading, songs, and radio messages, which gave him much strength and comfort. Through all these trials his wife was always at his side to comfort and care for him. His life came to its close rather unexpectedly on Friday morning, Feb. 5, 1960. He reached the age of 76 years, five months and three days.

He leaves to mourn his departure his wife, Ida, and his children: Art and Norma Stucky of Moundridge, Reuben Ralph and Esther Stucky of Newton, Oliver and Mary Ellen Stucky of Colorado Springs, Colo., Roland and Elaine Stucky of Kingsburg, Calif., Melvin R. and Aldene Stucky of Newton, Leroy H. and Betty Stucky of Newton, Alida and Leonard Bartel of Peoria, Ill., Agnes of Newton, Dorothy and Luke Bartel of Halstead, Esther Mae and Gene Schmidt of Farmington, New Mexico, Betty and Lowell Ingram of Seattle, Wash. He also leaves his stepchildren, Menno and Tina Albrecht of Hutchinson, Edith and Floyd Gibson of Spokane, Wash.; his brothers, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Val Stucky, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Stucky, Mr. and Mrs. Chris L. Stucky, and Mr. and Mrs. Jonas Stucky; Mrs. Ben L. Stucky, Mrs. Bernard J. Stucky, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Schrag, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Schrag, Mr. and Mrs. John B. Goering, Mrs. Carrie Krehbiel, Mr. and Mrs. Peter C. Graber, Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Krehbiel; 22 grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
