IRENE STUCKY
rene Stucky, 85, of Moundridge, Kan., died March 11, 2010, at Mercy Hospital. She was born May 3, 1924, to Henry S. and Augusta Hagen in Collinsville, Okla., the sixth of 12 children.
The family moved to different locations before settling in the Reedley, Calif., area, where her parents worked in the fruit-packing business.
In 1943, she received a letter from a gentleman from Kansas who was in Civilian Public Service with her cousin. She answered that letter, and soon a courtship started. On Nov. 26, 1943, she married Winton Stucky in Reedley. They moved to Moundridge.
She enjoyed being a homemaker, grocer, seamstress, nurse’s assistant and ward clerk, and a great cook. She was well known for her wedding dresses. In 1955 she and Winton moved to Hesston, Kan., to run a grocery store. There they became involved with the international students at Hesston College. What started as a small group soon became a group of 30 to 40 college students.
After Winton’s death in 1991, she met Howard Yoder, a United Methodist minister, teacher, missionary and administrator. They were married almost six years before Howard died in 2005.
Survivors include two sons, Scott Stucky and his wife, MinWei, of Phoenix, Ariz., and Randy Stucky and his wife, Rita, of Halstead; a daughter, Joan Goering and her husband, Russ, of Inman; two brothers, Robert Hagen and Elvie Hagen, both of Kingsburg, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Dorothy Stucky of Moundridge and Violet Voran of Hutchinson; four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
