. . .
— Ben Stucky, 51, of Moundridge died Monday afternoon in a Wichita hospital as result of burns and other injuries received in a gas explosion in the basement of his home at about 11 p.m. on Saturday. Mr. Stucky was first rushed to the Mercy Hospital in Moundridge, then taken to Wesley Hospital in Wichita. The Stuckys had smelled gas in the house for several days but were unable to find the trouble. They had just returned home and he was going into the basement to investigate when a flip of the light switch set off the explosion. Mr. Stucky's clothes and hair caught fire, which his wife helped him put out but only after he was severely burned. Cement blocks were knocked from the foundation and windows blown out. Later investigations showed that the gas leak was in the service line entering the house. Funeral services for Mr. Stucky will be held Thursday forenoon at the Eden Mennonite Church, with Rev. Arnold Nickel, the pastor, officiating. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Viola Stucky, the mother, Mrs. Eli Stucky, and two sons, Warren and Lannie.
