ARLENE D. STUCKY

Arlene Dorothea Stucky was born Aug. 22, 1925, the oldest of three daughters, to Albert and Anna (Miller) Neufeld near Hanston, Kan. She grew up on the farm and attended school there. She was baptized and received into the membership of Hanston Mennonite Church and later changed her membership to Faith Mennonite Church, where she remained a member until her death.

She married Menno Stucky of Moundridge on April 5, 1953, in North Newton. They established their home in North Newton, where both worked at Bethel College. They had two daughters, Marilyn and Dolores.

The family moved to Topeka in 1964, where Menno worked for the state until his death in 1967. Arlene and the girls then moved back to Newton, where she worked as a bookkeeper for Graber's Hardware and a receptionist for Town and Country Veterinary Clinic. She later worked for the General Conference Mennonite Church headquarters and spent many volunteer hours at the Newton EtCetera Shop, where she was the bookkeeper.

Arlene's special interests were family, friends and church. She enjoyed gardening, preserving, sewing, cooking, baking and entertaining guests. She went on many tours, including a Mennonite Central Committee work tour in Europe in the 1940s and visits to her daughters while they were serving with MCC: Marilyn in Bangladesh and Dolores in Bolivia, both in the 1980s.

Arlene died Feb. 18, 1995, at the age of 69.

She is survived by two daughters, Marilyn Brockmueller and husband Lee of Freeman, S. D., and Dolores Jantzen and husband Vern of Plymouth, Neb.; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Neufeld of Kansas City and Maurine Woods of Tucson, Ariz.
