Farmer Killed When Tree Rolls Over

UNUSUAL ACCIDENT IN LANCASTER CO. CLAIMS LIFE OF J. F. STOLTZFUS

Lancaster, Penna. — John F. Stoltzfus, 58, well known Amish farmer of Route 2, Elverson, lost his life in an unusual accident Aug. 18 at his farm in eastern Lancaster county.

He and his son were cutting limbs from a tree which had been felled in the meadow, when the tree suddenly turned over. The elder Stoltzfus was thrown to the ground and one end of the trunk struck his head, inflicting a compound fracture of the skull.

Funeral services were held Saturday forenoon, Aug. 21, and burial was made in Mast's cemetery.

Mr. Stoltzfus operated a large farm. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Kauffman, 14 children and a number of brothers and sisters.
