Tragedy Strikes Amish Couple En Route to Sunday Evening Sing

Leola, Pa. — Plans of a young Amish couple to attend a Sunday evening singing ended tragically when the buggy in which they were riding was struck by a car near Quarryville, fatally injuring Fannie Stolzfus [sic Stoltzfus], 19.

John M. Fisher, also 19, had gotten out of the buggy to calm his horse when a young Quarryville motorist crashed into the rear of the buggy. The horse was thrown across the road into the path of an oncoming car and instantly killed. The Stoltzfus girl died three days later of head and internal injuries.

She leaves her parents, Emanuel and Sarah Stoltzfus, five sisters and three brothers.
