YOUTH CAUGHT IN HAMMERMILL BELT, DIES OF INJURIES

Lancaster, Pa. — While helping his younger brother chop feed, 12-year-old Elam R. Stoltzfus of Bird-in-Hand was caught in the hammermill belt and fatally injured Sept. 2. He died an hour and a half later at Lancaster General hospital.

Before he died, the youth was able to tell how he tried to put the belt back on the pulley while the machine was still operating from its own momentum. He was caught in the belt and thrown against the mill and onto the barn floor with great force.

The parents, Jesse K. and Emma Stoltzfus, three brothers and one sister survive.
