Tractor Mishap Fatal Near Bareville, Pa.

Smoketown, Pa. — A tractor accident near Bareville on Sept. 15 took the life of Aaron B. Stoltzfoos [sic Stoltzfus], 78, a deacon of the Amish Mennonite church near Bird-in-Hard.

When the accident occurred, he was working alone on the farm of his son Samuel near Gap, using the tractor with a power mower attached to clear a pasture near the barn.

It is believed that he got off the tractor, which then rolled over his legs. Found by his wife under the tactor, he died shortly after arrival at the hospital. Death was due to shock from a compound fracture of the left leg.

Survivors include his widow, Annie; four sons, James and Samuel of Gap, Simeon of Bareville and Thomas of the home; and one daughter, Sarah of the home.

Funeral services were held at the Weavertown Amish Mennonite church, with burial in the adjoining cemetery.

Note: Death notice is for Aaron B. Stoltzfoos.

AARON B. STOLTZFUS

Aaron B. Stoltzfus was born Oct. 27, 1881 to Moses and Sarah (Beiler) Stoltzfus at the family home near Bareville, Lancaster County, Pa. He died at the Lancaster General Hospital on Sept. 15, 1960, following a tractor accident.

On Dec. 6, 1906 he was married to Annie Stoltzfus, who survives. They lived together in matrimony, sharing joys and sorrows, for over 53years. They resided on a farm near Bareville during all of these years.

He united with the Old Order Amish Church in his youth upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour. Later he transferred his membership to the Weavertown A. W. Church. In June 1934 he was ordained a deacon, in which calling he faithfully labored to the end of his life.

Surviving are five children, James and Samuel, both of Gap, Pa., Simeon, residing on the home farm near Bareville, and Thomas and Sarah of the home; two brothers, Moses and Elam of Bareville, and one sister, Ada of Gordonville, Pa. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, three sisters, and two sons, Moses and George, who died in childhood. Bro. Stoltzfus is sorely missed by his wife and children.

The accident which claimed his life took place at the farm home of his son Samuel. He was alone when it happened. His daughter-in-law found him lying on the ground, and he told her that he had stumbled and the tractor passed over him. Loss of blood causing shock and a compound fracture of the leg were the cause of death.

Funeral services were conducted Sept. 19 at the Weavertown church by Bishop Jesse Spicher, Christ Kurtz and Bishop David Bontrager. Burial was made in the adjoining cemetery.
