HENRY K. STOBBE

Henry Stobbe was born July 17, 1894 in Hierschau, Molotschna Colony, the second child of Kornelius and Gertrude (nee Rogalsky) Stobbe. At the age of 17 he accepted the Lord as his Saviour, and was baptized a year later by Elder David Goertzen. He joined the Mennonite Brethren Church, of which he remained a faithful member to his end. He loved the Lord and was active in youth and Sunday school work.

In 1914 he volunteered for alternative service as a stretcher bearer among the wounded of World War I. Then in 1915 he was conscripted by the Russian government, and served in the Forestry at Neuberdjan and Kostroma for three years.

In 1918 he married Susie Friesen. Seven children were born to them of which one predeceased him. In 1919 his dear mother died and a year later his father followed her.

The family immigrated to Canada, arriving December 24, 1924. To begin farming in a new land was hard but the Lord blessed his labours. While farming at Brandon, he attended the Griswold and later the Alexander Mennonite Brethren churches.

In 1950 they moved to Winnipeg and joined the North Kildonan Church. He was able to devote his time to his favorite hobby, woodworking. In 1962 his wife Susie went to be with the Lord.

On September 22, 1962 he found a second helpmate in Kaethe Quiring and for almost 12 years they were able to share joys and sorrows. After a lengthy illness and much suffering the Lord took him home July 12.

Those left to mourn are his beloved wife Kaethe Stobbe; a brother, Peter, in Ottawa; a sister, Mrs. Mary Klassen in Clearbrook, B.C.; sons: Henry and Frank of Winnipeg, Jake in Clearbrook, B.C., Pete and John in Brandon; daughter Martha in Kelowna, B.C.; step-sons Henry Quiring in Vineland, Ont. and Peter Quiring in Virgil, Ont.; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
