(MRS.) AGANETHA STOBBE

Aganetha Stobbe was born November 2, 1891 in Bogomasov, New Samara, the second child of Peter and Helena (nee Unruh) Nachtigal. Her father passed away when she was only two yeats old. Later, when her mother remarried, Martin Friesen became . her step-father.

At age 16 she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Saviour and was baptized upon the confession of her faith and accepted into the Mennonite Brethren Church.

On March 18, 1918, she married Abram Jakob Stobbe in Bogomasov, where they lived until they migrated to Canada in 1924. Upon arriving in Canada, they lived first in Blaine Lake, Sask. where they worked for the Doukhobors for two years. Then they moved to Mullingar, Saskatchewan and started farming. They spent 18 hard but happy years in this northern community. In the fall of 1943 when their house and most of its contents were destroyed by fire they decided they should move to B.C.

They lived on a farm in Arnold until 1956 when they retired to a smaller farm. In 1967 they moved to Clearbrook, where they spent six very happy years and celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in March 1968. They often suffered ill health but were always able to look after each other until Mr. Stobbe passed away in December 1973. She enjoyed Bible study and Sunday school and attended these faithfully as long as her health permitted. She was also active in the ladies sewing circles.

In January, 1974 she moved into the Tabor Home, where she was quite happy in spite of the fact that she missed her husband so much. On February 24, in Menno Home, she quietly passed into her eternal home. Her last few weeks were spent mostly in prayer. She always prayed much for her children; one of her main concerns was that all would meet in heaven one day. She reached age 83.

She leaves to mourn: four sons and their wives, Jake and Bertha Stobbe, Abbotsford, B.C.; Abe and Mary Stobbe, Arnold B.C.; Pete and Lily Stobbe, Ellensburg, Wash.; Henry and Margaret Stobbe, Detroit, Mich.; five daughters and their husbands, Agnes and Orville Northcott, Surrey, B.C .; Helen and Arthur Kayser, Campbell, Cal.; Katherine and Jake Janzen, Hythe, Alta.; Betty and John Derksen, Chilliwack, B.C.; Nellie and Gerhard Rempel, Oliver, B.C.; 38 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. The funeral was held February 27 in the Clearbrook MB Church with Rev. Nick Dyck and Rev. H. Thielmann officiating.
