MRS. JOSEPH STERIA

Mrs. Helena Noftsier Steria, 68, wife of Joseph Steria, died May 2, 1967, in the Lewis County General Hospital, Lowville, New York, where she had been a patient five days.

The funeral was held May 5, 1967, with a prayer service at 1:15 p.m. at the family home at New Bremen, and a service at 2:00 p.m. at the Conservative Mennonite Church at Croghan, of which she was a member. Rev. Richard Zehr, pastor, officiated.

Surviving besides her husband are seven sons, Elmer of Carthage, Ernest of Croghan, Harold of Lowville, Victor of Martinsburg, Wilbur and Joseph Jr., both of Lowville, and Walter of New Bremen; six daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Mildred) Widrick, Woodville, Mrs. Henry (Mabel) Zehr, Copenhagen, Mrs. Floyd (Laura) Zehr, Castorland, R.D., Mrs. Hilary (Pearl) Widrick, Croghan, Mrs. Ralph (Mary) Moser, Lowville R.D., Mrs. James (Margaret) St. Louis, Carthage; three brothers, Reuben, Beaver Falls, Harold, Utica, Aaron of Lyons Falls; three sisters, Mrs. Edward (Erma) Hoppel, Castorland, Mrs. Henry (Alice) Saunders, Watson, and Mrs. Ralph (Leona) Long, Utica; 62 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Steria was born July 1, 1898, in the town of Watson, a daughter of Christian and Mary Lyndaker Noftsier. On Jan. 6, 1916 she was married to Joseph Steria at Croghan. Following their marriage the couple operated a farm at Kirchnerville until 1945 when they moved too New Bremen. From 1952 to 1966 Mrs. Steria operated a convalescent home in New Bremen.
