HENRY STEINGARD

Henry Steingard was born to Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Steingard at Henderson, Neb. on Dec. 1, 1889. in 1907 he came to Meade County, Kansas where he lived until his death with the exception of five years in McPherson County.

On July 4, 1909, he was baptized with a group of six of which he was the last survivor. In 1910, he found the Lord as his Saviour and was converted under the ministry of Rev. Frank Weins at a revival service in the Pleasant Hill Schoolhouse. When describing his conversion, he said that it was as if the Lord had offered him a basket full of Grace and he took it and went all the way. On June 10, 1910, he became a charter member of the Evangelical Mennonite Church of which he remained a faithful member until the Lord called him Home. He served as Sunday school superintendent for many years and was the church treasurer for 23 years. He was a member of the Gideon organization for 25 years, and had a life membership in the Northern Bible Society.

On Feb. 12, 1911, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Franz, and to this union were born two children: a son, Marvin, deceased, and a daughter, Mildred. He was noted throughout the state as a wheat farmer, which he believed was God's vocation for his life. One of the highlights of his married life was their golden anniversary in 1961. The Lord granted them an additional five years for their 55th anniversary on Feb. 12, 1966.
