MRS. LENA STEINERT

Mrs. Lena Steinert, daughter of Henry and Anna Schmidt, was born April 15, 1878, in McPherson County, Kansas, departed this life Jan.3, 1956, at the age of 77 years, nine months and 18 days.

In 1897 she was united in marriage to John Jantz. To this union three sons were born, Robert, Leon, Louis. Robert and Leon died during infancy. After four years of married life her husband passed away.

During the Oklahoma pioneer days of 1902 mother with her son Louis, her father, mother, brothers and sisters traveled by wagon caravan from Kansas into Oklahoma, settling on a farm south of Goltry, Okla. Mother drove a team and covered wagon from Kansas to Oklahoma.

She was a widow three years after her first marriage. In1904 she was united in marriage to Henry Steinert at Lahoma, Okla. They lived in this community for six years. In 1912 they moved to a farm near Breckinridge, Okla.

In 1932 her second husband passed away. She continued living on the farm until 1945.After leaving the farm she made her home at 402 West State, Enid, Okla. In 1948 her son Louis passed away, which grieved her very much.

In 1949 she became a member of the Grace Mennonite Chruch [sic] of which she was a faithful member until the Lord called her home.

On Jan. 3 death came unexpectedly at a local hospital as a result of coronary thrombosis. Her children were at her bedside at the time of death.

She leaves to mourn her departure three sons, Joe of Little Rock, Ark., Dan of Enid, Bill of Marshall, Okla.; three daughters, Leah Peck, Bessie Rogers, and Lillie Leavengood, all of Enid, two brothers, Dan of Enid and Jonas of California; four sisters, Susie Unruh of Meno, Okla., Lizzie Eck and Mary Johnson of Ringwood, Okla., Eva Jones of Okeene, Okla.; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Friday, Jan. 6, at the Grace Mennonite Church of Enid, Rev. Albert J. Unruh in charge.
