LAST-MINUTE EFFORTS FAIL TO SAVE MURDERER
Last-minute efforts, which included an appeal to the U. S. Supreme Court, to save the 20-year-old Charles Starkweather of Linclon [sic Lincoln], Neb. from the electric chair were of no avail and Starkweather on June 25 paid for his crimes with his life.
He was charged with killing 11 persons — a record almost unparalleled in the annals of crime.
Previous to his execution, Starkweather was asked whether he would leave his eyes to charity. “Why should I do anything for anybody else? No one ever did anything for me,” he said.
